6 Steps to being COVID Secure for Model flying Clubs
- Conduct a COVID Risk Assessment
- identify what activity or situations might cause transmission of the virus
- think about who could be at risk
- decide how likely it is that someone could be exposed
- act to remove the activity or situation, or if this isn’t possible, control the risk

- Risk assessment template COVID-Risk-Assessment
- Share the results of your risk assessment with your members
- Manage contact
- Minimise contact with shared surfaces and equipment
- Minimise contact with other members through social distancing
- Provide hand washing/sanitising facilities, or require all members to bring hand sanitiser
- Consider when the use of face masks for added protection is appropriate. (Indoors. Masks are generally not needed outdoors if properly socially distanced)
- Ensure a cleaning protocol is in place for any indoor facilities/toilets
- Manage Capacity
- Ensure social distancing is possible, limit numbers if necessary
- Consider number of members who can reasonably social distance on the flight line, in the pits and any shared areas, including indoor facilities.
- Consider marking out pit areas and flight line positions to ensure social distancing
- Consider exposure time in certain areas, e.g. flightline, increase social distance >2m
- Consider a booking system to ensure fair usage
- Support Test & Trace
- Appoint a member as Track & Trace co-ordinator
- Keep a record off all attendees for a 21 day period
- Collect sufficient data on each attendee, name, tel no, arrival and departure times
- Consider non contact/online methods for recording attendance, WhatsApp, text message, online forms etc
- Spectators, non participants and Juniors
- Generally, attendance by spectators and non-participants should be avoided
- Remind individuals accompanied by juniors that they are responsible for supervising them at all times and should follow social distancing guidelines
- Providing and explaining guidance
- Provide signage, where practical, to remind members about social distancing and hand sanitising etc
- Provide all members with guidance in advance of attendance, by email, on your website etc
